Copyright infringement: Small Doctor not interested in KSA’s allegation, says manager
By Rotimi Agbana
Following the intellectual theft allegation leveled against popular Nigerian pop stars, Davido, Small Doctor, penultimate weekend, by Juju music icon, King Sunny Ade’s erstwhile manager, Mr. Clement Ige, who has worked with KSA for nearly forty years, Small Doctor has suggested that he is not bothered about it probably because it is an empty allegation.
When Showtime reached out to the penalty crooner to get his reaction regarding the defamatory allegation, his manager, Segun Raheem, revealed that though Small Doctor and his management are aware of the allegation, they are not interested in making any official statement or reaction regarding the matter.
“Yes, we have heard about it, but we are not interested in saying anything about it to the media, we’re not saying anything at all about it”, he said.
Over the years, copyright infringements, intellectual theft accusations and counter accusations have been a recurring decimal in the Nigerian entertainment space, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
Recall that between 2016 and 2018, there have been a number of accusations and counter accusations of intellectual theft, copyright infringement battles between Nigerian artistes. Blackface, erstwhile member of singing group, Plantashun Boiz, accused 2Face Idibia of stealing his songs; Amin crooner, Dammy Krane, accused Wizkid of using his lyrics without due permission; highlife maestro, Sir Victor Uwaifo, alleged that Simi, Jaywon, remixed his hit song, Joromi, without due consultation or
permission, to mention a few.
Hopefully, this taint on the Nigerian music industry
would become history as soon as a viable structure is
put in place.
