Ameachi said this Tuesday when he met with the Minister of State for Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika at the presentation of final report of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the Draft National Transport Policy.

“What we assure Nigerians is that under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, we would do everything possible to ensure that we maximise the resources that the president by way of budget releases to each ministry.”

“I agree with those who said we should stop criticising the last government and that we should do our own.

“We need to leverage on what we know. People are shouting intermodal transport; I went to the new airport in Singapore and I didn’t find one person at the airport. As you walk in, technology takes over.

He said he will send a copy of the draft to Sirika to make his input while they both put heads together to synchronize their inputs and forward to the federal cabinet.

“I will send a copy of the draft report to the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika for him to make his input which we will both harmonisr and send to the cabinet.”

Amaechi cited an example of Singapore, saying that the advancement of Information Technology in the country as made passengers at the airport to easily access their pass, tickets among others within the help of any human being.

“When you go to Singapore, you hardly find a passenger at their airports, you just come across very few drivers and when they come around, it doesn’t take them 3 minutes to be sorted out compared to Nigeria, where we spend days,” he said.

Also, the Chairman of the committee, Mrs Ufon Usoro, explained that the National Transport Policy is a practical and pragmatic response to Nigeria’s need for an integrated, modern and efficient transportation industry.

She said the fundamental goal of the NTP is to develop an adequate, safe, secure environmentally sound, affordable and integrated transport system within the framework of a progressive and competitive market economy.

She further emphasised the importance of integrating transport with other aspects of Government policy.

“It is hope that all transport related Government Agencies in the Federal,State and Local Governments will adopt and reflect the broad principles in this document into each of their respective transport plans ‎,as appropriate ” she said.

She explained that the journey for the development of a National Transport Policy for Nigeria commenced in 1986, when the Minister of Transportation and Aviation appointed an Expert Committee to formulate a Transport policy for the country.
