Ikeme thanks Nigerians for show of love
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme said his spirit has been lifted following the overwhelming show of support by the government and people of Nigeria after it was disclosed that he is down with leukemia last week.
Ikeme who has since began chemotherapy proved to be a good replacement for Vincent Enyeama and was somehow missed when the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in April. He was recovering from injury and was hoping to rejoin the Eagles only for routine medical examination revealed leukemia in his blood sample. “I am so happy to hear from Nigerians through the federal government and my spirit is lifted. I am responding to treatment and I can’t wait to leave here and be with my teammates.
“This call is worth more than money so I appreciate this show of love from Nigerians, my coach and the NFF President who also took time to come here to visit me. Thank you so much for your love and care,” Ikeme said.
Ikeme has made seven appearances for the Super Eagles since making his debut in 2015.
