UYO—Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and other development agencies to partner the state government in the execution of people-oriented projects as well as upgrade health facilities in the state.
The governor made the call, yesterday, at Ikot Udo Essang while commissioning Dr Umo Isong Health Centre, initiated by the Clement Isong Foundation, TCIF, in collaboration with the state government, NDDC, Pro-Health International, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA and the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, MWAN.
Governor Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the Clement Isong family for using the foundation to touch the lives of the people through the provision of healthcare services, and called on the people to desist from patronizing quacks, assuring that the facility will provide affordable services in line with the healthcare policy of his administration.
He said: “This is a laudable initiative because we have laid so much emphasis on healthcare delivery, and this happens to be one of the health facilities that will serve this community. I want to reassure the family that even though it is an NGO project, the state Ministry of Health will be on hand to give more assistance to ensure that the centre provides the best healthcare services to the people.”
The governor said that the state government had procured medical facilities for distribution to primary and secondary health institutions across the state, adding that the gesture will also be extended to the centre to boost its services.
“I will get the Health Commissioner to carry out a need assessment of the centre to ensure that the facility is equipped to make it a full fledg primary health care centre to serve as a legacy and in memory of our dear daughter whom we cherish so much,” he added.
Governor Emmanuel explained that, the legacies bequeathed to the state by late Dr. Clement Isong in the erstwhile Cross River State were eloquent testimonies of visionary leadership and commended the partners of Clement Isong Foundation for their services to humanity.
